Our Daddy, the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God has declared that this year is our Year of Great Turnarounds. I have no doubt whatsoever that he has spoken the mind of God concerning His people.  My goal here, however, is to show us from scriptures that the Holy Spirit is the key or the power, if you will, behind every great turnaround. Jesus Christ said, “It is the spirit that quickeneth…” John 6:63. In Genesis 1:2,3 the Bible says, “And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. [3] And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” Here the Spirit of God moved over the void and formless earth for the word of God to cause a turnaround.

Similarly, in the book of Luke 1:26-35 angel Gabriel was sent by God to Mary to declare the great tidings of a great turnaround. When she asked how this was going to happen, the Bible says, “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee…” The Holy Spirit must come upon her and overshadow her for the will of God to be accomplished, just as the Spirit of God brooded over the earth in Genesis 1:2 for God’s word to bring about the turnarounds during creation. It is pertinent to add here also that the great ministry of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ was that of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ himself, at the onset of His ministry, said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor…” Luke 4:18. And Apostle Peter, a firsthand witness of the ministry of Jesus Christ understood this when he said, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” Acts 10:38. Yes, one can safely say that all the great turnarounds that came through the ministry of Jesus Christ were enabled by the Holy Spirit.

Furthermore, and by far more importantly, immediately before His ascension, Jesus Christ instructed his disciples to wait for the infilling of the Holy Spirit. In Luke 24:49 Jesus said, “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.” All the great turnarounds you find in the Acts of the Apostles came about because the disciples obeyed this instruction; they waited and were endued by the Holy Spirit. God has not changed; the rules have not changed. A good understanding of the person of the Holy Spirit and a desire to let Him have His way is vital.  We must wait on Him in obedience, in fasting and prayer, and in our giving. Year 2020 shall surely be your year of Great Turnarounds in Jesus name. Happy New Year!!
